Letter 23

Hey Tim.
I’m here to talk about how amazing our presentation are. We had prepare this for over a month, and i really hope it all goes well.

For the morning m, we had to arrive early to decorate the hall way, but lucky, we have seniors to help us( well, they did most of the job ).
Then we went to change and make up, and rehearse the sound effects and lights. And hen lunch, and more preparation.. blah blah.

And Joe shouted, telling us to get ready and go to backstage, for thirty minutes, we had to wait in the dark, without a light in the backstage, and with butterflies in my stomach. The blood flood in my veins. I constantly repeat my lines, walking back and forward. Finally, we start hearing footsteps and chatting, within 10mins, the audience’s seat were full, then all the light went off. It was a complete silence and dark. A spot light shine on Joe, who gave a speech. Then the show is on. The moment cost us days of hard working, nights of preparing, simply just for this moment. When I first walked on to the stage, I couldn’t see a thing, the lights were too bright, but the lines just came out of my mouth by natural. The audiences laughed, I knew i did a great job, but it wasn’t enough, I start acting exaggerating, as much emotions as I can imagine, but natural, and with confidence. But I was too excited and confidence that my arm strained the cable of my microphone, that it fell off, I tried to pick it up, but I can’t, so I had to shout and speak without the microphone. Still, I know we all did a great job with the smile on every audiences face.

Letter 22

Hey Tim, now the rush hour of EHP have ended, and I have got loads of stories to tell. Where do I begin ?
Probably the story of two weeks before the final performance, I stepped on the volleyeyball, and sprained my ankle. It was so bad that I couldn’t walk or even stand, I have to left my leg up on bed. Had to see different doctors. I could barely attend the rehearsal, still, I was forced to go to school, but need a wheelchair to get my books, it’s a hard task for me to move around in the classroom. As a stubborn person, and a lazy fuck, from time to time I still want to make some effort, so while most of the time I just rest in the corner, sometime I insist on walking up the stage to practice.  Unfortunately, that made my ankle worse, for a whole week, I had to wear a special ankle protection gear, and not walk.
When I want to help, I get stopped. When I want to move, I get stopped.

When I just want to practice, u get stopped. It was quite irritating, but turns out my ankle recovered in a blink of an eye. On the day of performance, when I have to jump of the scaffolding, I didn’t feel pain, but the moral of the story is, don’t step on a volleyball.

Animal Farm Review

The story taught us a lot, within the dictator Napoleon is, and his way of reigning, we can see a lot of historical event from it.

Today, I’m going to thoroughly analyze the story with historical references.

First, the most obvious connection is the Soviet Union, Stalin and Lenin. Which represents Napoleon and the mayor. Of corse, the concept is good, everybody is working hard and doing there job except for the cats, who represents the minor ones who wish to get paid without efforts, and Molly, the ones who went relying on capitalism.  But the power is easily overused turn into dictation.
But how did Napoleon lead the animal farm without much rebel?

It’s actually simple, to make the animals( people ) stupid, and believe they are living in a paradise with honor and life has been better.
It’s a commonly used strategy, since Qin dynasty, the emperor, Qin Shihaung, ordered the people to burn the books, kill the intellectuals, leaving the stupids to work for him,in order to avoid revolution of his despotic rule.Additionally, North Korea, Kim Jone-eun, brain washes his people in the belief of how amazing it is to live in North Korea when outside is full of the evil America, and only the savior, Kim himself would set them free.
But that’s not it, as I was saying, Napoleon has all the faults and mistakes blamed on Snowball. Exactly how Kim Jong-eun defame America and the western counties.
A way to let the people forget how ridiculous the rulered them, is to have a clear goal or enemy, in the story, it has both. The goal is to build a wind-mill and the enemy is all humans. In which is easily to find the same strategy, for instance, while in the Koxinga era, his has the propaganda of defeat the Qing dynasty and recover the Ming dynasty with the enemy, obviously, Qing dynasty.
But how did Napoleon secure his power, with army, and fear of the people, the “dogs”. He had dogs that overthrew Snowball,  and make sure nobody dares to rebel. In the ww2, Hitler has a group of secret agent, Gestapo. Also in the Ming dynasty, the emperor has 錦衣衛, so that people (animals) will have the fear of making the wrong statements or talking about the wrong subject, so that they would be careful and won’t have the courage to overthrow the current government ( Napoleon).

In a chapter where the dogs tried to attack Boxer, but Boxer not just defeated the dogs, and nearly killed one of them. My explanation is the writer tries to drop a hint that people ( Boxer) has always been stronger than the ruler and their army ( the dogs ), just like the French Revolutions, the America Independent war, when people are tired of there king, and decided to overthrow them, then establish an equal government, leads by the period people. Kinda like animal farm at the beginning.

Another point, as soon as the animal controlled the farm, Jones and the other farmers started to plan to take back the farm, at the pub, together, while the animals were also making friends with the other farmers, even trading. WW1 started with two parties, the allied nations that concludes, French, British and Russia, while the Germans and Italians and Austrians had set up there own parties, the allies. Or even in the the Spring and Autumn and the Warring states period, where different powers will come to allies and defeat the others.
At last, I’ll end this with a famous saying, history is a tool to check is we made the same mistake twice. But from what I see, many things are going on exactly how Orwell described Animal farm. This is not just a book of sarcasm, but a book that can apply on many situations, to check if your on the wrong track.

Letter 21

I know I’m not an expert in language, but recently, I start listening to Russian podcast when I’m on the metro, the only disadvantage is that I can’t repeat it. So far I have gotten the ability to say,” Hello, my name is William.”
It also shorten the time of transportation by having something to focus on .
I have been staying in school till 9:00pm nearly everyday to practice our performance, it was a lot of fun, but on the on the other hand, memorizing the script...is really irritating, killing my brain skill.
In Taiwan, there is a kind of punishment of 警告,means you have a record of a strike. To cancel it out, you need to do public service.

Last weekend, I went to do public service, turns out I just have to sit on a chair and make sure nobody touches the exhibition props for total 8 hours. Ehm...interning.

Letter 20

This week was definitely a fun weekend. First of all, it’s my birthday, additionally I turned 17. Honestly I was surprised when my classmates gave me gifts and cards on Saturday morning. And then we played volleyball again, the day was hot and I sweated, but also my morning awake. Then I went home to take a shower to go out to have dinner with my family. Honestly after eating so many mircrowaved meals and fast foods. It was a pleasure to eat food that is actually made at the kitchen. I ate till I can’t eat anymore, because I don’t know when is the next time I can have this opportunity.
The next day Aubrey and I went to see the 雲門 show, which is about modern dance. Honestly, it’s a extraordinary experience. Then we went to the 淡水老街,had a times of interesting time

Letter 19

Hello, Tim. I have been pretty busy doing the preparation of the EHP performance. I joined the script writing group!!!Yeah!! It’s actually a tough task to do. We had to brainstorm new characters and their personalities. And of course, to make sure none of the plots are in contradiction.  Then after days of writing, we finally started the audition, at last I got the character of Sullivan, which was on of the main role. Then it’s making the props, we didn’t have spare time. Therefore, we had to stay at school till 9, and spay paint our props, it’s my first time!!! It’s was so exciting, unfortunately I didn’t have any
protection on.

It’s was fun, but a repetitive work, so there aren’t much to say, anyway I can tell it’s getting more and more interesting.

Oh, I started a instagram account to post daily doodling. I had to draw during classes.

Hey, Tim, unfortunately, my dad is the only one that followed the Qingming festival this year. And because of the  responsibility to wake up very early to drive back to Taichung is a hard task for our family. Except for my dad. But there are a lot of joyful and memorable times for this 5 day vacation. Skipping the first of just playing Xbox, the second day I went skateboarding with Jack and Aubrey till    afternoon, and had a chilled on the  meadow and chatted till night. I did had a lot of fun on that adventure, but on the contrary, Jack went flying after he skates into the bushes, and had big wounds on his hand.  On the same day 11 pm, my friends came to my house, then we played Xbox and watched movie, which I fell asleep very soon after the movie was played, in my tiny room.

The third day was the...interesting ???
So my friends and I went out to had breakfast then I had cram school in the afternoon....

The day after was amazing, it was the climax. I went out with my friends, and I never thought I had a chance to face to face and meet  my idol, yellow claw. But I didn’t just meet them, I took a picture with them, additionally, I had the best post of the face, and even have the chance to talk to them.
Then my friends burst to check out another friend’s performance.
Damn, the audience were hyped by their music and singing skills .
And to have a fine ending, our class meet up at school to practice volleyball, then discuss the EHP script. I bet I had the script editor gene is in my bone.

Letter 16

HEY, I am back, I saw your letter about the tissue paper crisis in Taiwan this week, and unfortunately, people are really desperate to buy them, even my Chinese teacher bought 400 pack of them, and cost her approximately  10000 dollars. And there were stories about this is actually just a fake news, that some tissue factory overly produced tissues, and the tissues were all stocked up, and couldn't get rid of them, so they spread the story. I don't know, I just couldn't get the concept of buying the tissues more then you need, the intention is to buy them before it gets more expensive. But it is going to take a lot of your areas just to stock them, additionally, you probably going to waste the tissues, because in your mind, you knew you still have a bunch of savings, so you can be careless.
My family didn't catch this wave, we had chats about it, but didn't care much, we just simply not waste it? Maybe that is a good solution.

This week has been amazing, besides the good weather that is giving me positivity,  I had my bed sheets washed finally. Initially, I wasn't planning to do it, but the smell is forcing me to do it, damn, I should probably shower more at before I go to bed, and not when I wake up.

Anyway thats it for this week, ill probably write more in the following days, this is getting really fun, I think its because I have learned more vocabulary and can write and read more fluently. Peace out!

LETTER 15

Hello Tim
It has already been a week since the vacation ended, still not in the mood for tests and homework, but I know I will briefly get right back on track. Frankly, I feel like school os really like my second home, I feel comfortable in that area, certainly, not including the tests, those can be remove without any doubt of mine, hehehe. But being in school with my friends, make jokes with them, chatting, or playing games together, or even just roast each other, its a really great time, making up the irritating stuffs like...tests.  We went out to get sponsor for our show this weekend, at first it was a bit embarrassing, learning that we just ask for money to sponsor us, but upon knowing that we are not the one that is doing that, I felt more comfortable doing it, with a hand make cardboard box holding.
we got at least 1000 dollars at the end of the day, it was quite and experience, and I'm thankful I that I lived far away from that place so I don't have to meet the sponsors. anyway, ill keep uploading Tim, see ya next time.

Letter 14

Hola Tim:
The final exam is around the corner, so while my weekend in studying, and a bit of games. The weather really wants students to stay at home studying, because it has been constantly raining for over 3 days, till now, it’s still raining. So yesterday, I tried to do something different, to go to a library that’s far far away from the urban area, it was a hot spring tourist attraction, and the library is not just

eco-friendly, but really beautiful, from the window, there is a pond, a bridge to connect.  I had a great time there, aren’t much people, I had my headphones on and just sink into the words, the senses were pretty incredible...I don’t know how to describe, but it’s a feeling.  The trip back to my house was interesting as well, as I was in the metro , a little girl kicked my in my knee, and her mom went: Say sorry to uncle. TO UNCLE !!!!! Am I really that old...alright, probably lack of sleep. Anyway, bye Tim!

Letter 13

DEAR Tim  :
Funny story about this Christmas, I got a present from Santa (my dad), it was a video game, an Xbox one video game. Little did he know, the only console I have is Xbox 360, in other words, I can only stare and the CD and can’t do anything with it. The moment I opened it was super cringe…. We didn’t put up the tree this Christmas, because of our laziness exploded, I was actually disappointed when I found out there were no gift at the spot where it should be, it turns out the gift were on my desk, I fulfilled with joy when I saw it.
This new years eve, I spent it with my friends, we had beer and I was so drunk that I couldn’t remember where I was the next morning, but I did remember we stayed up till the next morning approximately 5, we played Mahjong all night, I lost, and was punished to drink more, then we went out to get some marinade, my friends video taped me, an I couldn’t even walk straight. I wasn’t a drinker, and I am super bad at it, but when I do, I drink hard. The next morning, I had to walk up at 9, so I could catch the train to Chiayi on time. Then I attended one of my friends wedding, yes, he was 11 years older then me, but we are still friends. Then I walked around that city, I think it is our first time in that place, then I had to take an 4 hour bus back to Taipei, super exhausted. Anyway, its time for some rest from this happy new hears holiday.

William
